  • For this case study I selected source and destination as Pune and Agartala. The reason is Agartala is far away located from Pune and there is no direct connectivity. The results provided were accurate.

IxiGo India Trip Planner

  • For this case study I selected “Sikkim” as it is one of my bucket list destination
  • Search results divides the page into 2 sections. Left hand menu gives links for “In a nutshell” (Which is like reading wiki page information), “Famous places”, “Holiday packages”, “Places to see and do”

Tripigator #KitnaPadega

  • An awesome tool to know the approximate price of your trip. “Kitna Padega” translates to “How much?”. For budget conscious Indians this is the most commonly asked question when planning a trip
  • Its ultra simple screen just takes in input of the place which you are planning, the number of people and days and hotel category.
  • Even the “Bhai!” in search result is hilarious and something which all Indians can correlate with.

Must See India

  • This website offers an entire suite of India trip planner tools
  • Travel between cities tool gives all possible modes of transport (something similar to Make my trip tool) between 2 destinations including holiday packages
  • The Driving Directions tool seems like an awesome tool had Google maps not existed in India. This is similar to Google Maps directions but Google of course does a much better job. They have also integrated search results in the form of different tabs of the previous Travel between cities tool.
  • Distance calculator is simple tool which gives the distance in kms between 2 destinations. Again it is pre-Google maps era.

  • Again Google Maps provides a much better alternative to Visual planner.

India trip planner

  • One click planner takes input of 2 destinations and gives a result in different result boxes shown in a 2 column tabular format. There is one box for hotel results, weather, maps, flights, attractions etc.
  • City guide gives information similar to wiki travel in text format.
  • All tools are very easy to use and response time is very fast but mostly unnecessary in 2015. The only practical tool is Travel between cities.

Holiday IQ – Holiday Ideas

  • This tool is perfect for getting inspired by different travel ideas.
  • I will highly recommend it for someone who is on 9 to 5 job and just wants to avail annual leave but have no clue where to go
  • You can filter out your results based on the travel theme, travel style (family, solo, couple, group), budget and planning on school vacation, long weekends or custom dates
  • The search is displayed in different tabs one each for Hotels, Sightseeing, Packages and Events (The last 2 hardly display any data).
  • Results displayed are thumbnail images with description in multi column tabular format
  • Results are fast but even for long weekends and school vacations you have to give dates and its more or less like custom dates itself.

Trip Hobo (Formerly JoGuru)

  • Bias alert – Not because I know the founders or they have sponsored this post or anything remotely like that. But this startup is based out of my hometown of Pune :) so it has to be awesome – and it really is.
  • The above diagram clearly shows how it works
  • You can either create trips (so someone can use them for their planning) or view existing trips.
  • You can view trips based on your number of days in that place (and I really loved this feature)
  • It has a global feel and you can view trips even for Lisbon and Prague.
  • You can even book hotels through this portal

India trip planner

  • The way the data is displayed is truly work of a genius developer.
  • One feedback : Its something similar to Yonderbound. This website should give the ability for users to earn fraction of affiliate earning if someone books using their trips as a reference. If such a feature is added then this will become a blockbuster :)
